Today Picacho Peak is an Arizona State Park. From it you can view the San Cruz valley where the colonizing expedition moved cautiously through the country of the Apaches. This view is looking west from Picacho State Park. A NPS interpretative exhibit is located here. This is good view of long expanse of a flat arid southwest Arizona landscape with sagebrush, wildflowers, and evident catus most likely the smaller columnar organ pipe variety found in this region. Picacho Peak lay between present-day Tucson and the Gila River, an important destination for Anza.
