It would appear from the way the Spanish is worded in this instance that it was this Expedition that gave the name "San Luis" to this wetlands, or ciénega.  Since they arrived at this site in the early morning hours of El Día de San Luis, Rey de Francia (the fiest day of San Luis, King of France), there is no question that Anza was responsible for the naming of what is today the San Luis Valley of Colorado
