Means the "Mountains of the Cranes."  Today this mountain range is known as the San Juan Mountains, even though it is shown on the Bernardo de Miera map of 1776, the Roque Madrid map of 1705, and the Alex Humboldt map of 1804 as the Sierra de las Grullas.
