Mission La Purisima is not on the historic route though a place to interpret the Anza expedition. The eleventh Spanish mission founded, December 8, 1787 is an excellent park and place to interpret Spanish mission culture in California. Mission La Purisima is half way between the missions founded in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.. Earthquakes have leveled the historic structure and initial restoration began in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and closely approximated that of the indigenous craftsmen 120 years previous.
